7/1/09 - The first stakes races for 3-year-olds will be held this weekend. The Betsy Ross Arabian S. (G3) for fillies is on Saturday and the Liberty Bell Arabian S. (G3) for colts and geldings is on Sunday. There is also a "dutch treat" dinner at the At The Rail restaurant on Saturday, July 4th at 6:30pm.

Congratulations to Guy Neivens, 2008's leading owners with over $187,000 in earnings. Ron Martino was the leading trainer by earnings. With his mounts earning over $258,000, William Hollick was the leading rider. Bosted by a big win in the Delaware Park Arabian Classic H. (G1), Thoroughbred, owned by Neivens and trained by Martino, was the leading earner with over $96,000.

We've Gone the Distance to be the Best

On September 1, 1984, the first Arabian race was run at Delaware Park. The race was for maidens, 3-years-old and up running 6 furlongs (3/4 of a mile). The winner was a horse by the name of Locust Tagore, a grey 9-year-old gelding. He defeated 8 other horses and won in a time of 1:21.1. The total purse for the race was $2,750 and total handle was $40,693.

Twenty-three years later, Delaware Park is the premier spot for Arabian racing in the United States. Boasting overnight purses of $9,000-$12,000 and a stakes program worth almost $1 million, here is where you will find the very best!
